There was just a report of the first kind that I read today about a woman who had a ruptured breast implant from playing paintball. This is the first report of this kind to occur, so it is a rare occurrence. However, it has paintball businesses warning their customers that if they have breast implants, to make sure they wear extra padding over them for extra protection.
The 26 year old woman was playing paintball when one of the notorious little zingers hit her point blank on one of her breasts going quite fast. This caused her breast implant to spring a leak. The type of implant was a soft shell, but it did not indicate whether it was a silicone or saline, although I’m assuming it may be one of the newer silicone types of implants, or perhaps a gummy type of implant by the sounds of it.
There have been many bizarre accidents that have resulted in rupturing of breast implants, but this is the first of its kind. Paint ball is notorious for hitting you and actually hurting you a little bit. That’s why the protective gear must be worn, because the ball shit you at such a velocity.
This was probably more like a freak accident, the ball hitting her at exactly a vulnerable place on the implant, and having just the right angle to make the breast implant actually break in some way.
Breast implants are actually quite resilient. They have to be made that way due to FDA regulations and the fear that they may easily rupture if the person has any sort of trauma in that area. It is a safety concern.
Now, the real question is, will this poor lady be able to get her implant replaced free of charge? Implants usually come with some sort of warranty period, but I’m not sure if they make stipulations for freak accidents or acts of nature. Should be interesting!
