Choosing the Right Implant

The Best, Most Natural Breast Implant Options

There are a variety of options available to the woman who wishes to have breast implants. In most cases, the costs associated with this type of surgery ranges between $5-10,000. None of the options are without some type of risk or disadvantage. However, some are distinctly more desirable than others.

Among the concerns most women have about their breasts is how natural they feel, and how they look.  So, if they bounce, move, and sway like natural breasts, then most women would be clamoring for them.  That’s what you get when you use a great breast implant alternative though, since you essentially grow your own new breast tissue. But we are here to talk about breast implants today!

Gummy bear implants (also known as, “cohesive breast implants” or “cohesives” ) have been implemented by women all over the world for almost 15 years. They have undergone more than 5 years of extensive testing in the United States. However, they are not yet as widely available in America as they are in other countries.

Touted by many European plastic surgeons as the best, most natural looking implant options, gummy bears are only available to a small number of American patients of those doctors who have agreed to participate in the clinical trials still being conducted.

Gummy bear breast enhancements are reported to best maintain their shape, over and above gel and silicone types. Unlike standard silicone gel or saline cohesives, which are subjected to the forces of gravity, gummy bear implants impart the most natural looking appearance, making them, in most cases, the best choice.

The gel filling inside of the gummy bears does not shift from one area to another, which is another reason why they are considered the best natural looking option for breast enhancement. Additionally, unlike silicone gel or saline types, the cohesives do not leak

Studies conducted in the European countries where gummy bear enhancements are used more often, have found that firm scar tissue that is common with standard silicone gel is less likely to happen with the cohesive kind.  See breast implant alternatives as well, for other natural options.

This means a better, more natural looking appearance. It has not yet been determined whether this will remain true over the test of time, nor what causes it. Some surgeons speculate that there is less diffusion of standard silicone gel than with the types of fillers that cohesive implants contain.

Other doctors believe it is because of the increased firmness of the cohesive implant. They feel that this inhibits the body from contracting around the implant, but that is just a theory.  Some implants have a slightly texturized surface, which allows them to “grip” better to the tissues, and prevents slippage.

It’s almost comparable to a no-slip rug mat that you put underneat a rug.  It grips the rug so that it does not slip and slide all over the floor.  Some breast implants are more likely to stay in place because of the material they are made out of. The firmness also does help because there is less leeway for the implant to move around since it is a solid shape at all times with no “give”.

However, that is also one of the complaints about the gummy bear implants – the fact that they are a solid shape. They are a bit more firm than your traditional silicone implants, and for that reason, they can be a bit more firm to the touch, taking away from the natural, squishy feel that silicone implants can sometimes have.

The disadvantages associated with the gummy bear breast enhancements include a firmer feel than some women prefer. Also, since the gel cannot be compressed to fit into a small incision, the size of the surgical incision is larger than with saline or silicone types. They have also been known to rotate in place, causing a distorted appearance. There is also a slight risk of a gel-fracture, meaning that the gel can actually crack.

This rarely happens, however. In addition, they tend to be more expensive than either the saline or silicone kinds. Many women, however, opt to have the cohesives simply because they are considered to be the best, most natural options.

More American women fly to Europe for the surgery than have it in the United States because it is so rare that one will find a doctor to perform the surgery in America.
