Obesity and Severity of Breast Cancer
As if there were not already enough reasons for women to make sure they keep their body fat percentage in check, there are many many more when it comes to looking at the risks of getting breast cancer, and now also there is conclusive evidence that supports the fact that obese women get a much more agressive form of breast cancer than their underweight of regular weight counterparts.
We’ve talked about before the fact that body fat on women tends to hold a lot of estrogen, and estrogen in too much abundance, specfic type so it that is, has been thought to fuel breast cancer growth, so scientists are linking the excess body fat to the more agressive cancer, which is called inflammatory breast cancer, which is most commonly found in obese women.Â
Also adding fueld to the fire is the fact that obese or overweight women are much more likely to die sooner from the breast cancer statistically, then their thinner counterparts. Another reason to really watch our dietary fat, and burn off those extra calories with healthy exercise, which is another breast cancer enemy.
When women with breast cancer were grouped according to their BMI, a calculation which figures out how much of your body weight is fat, the women with lower body fat and lower overall BMI’s survived longer than the women that were in the obese or overweight category, which means they had much more body fat, by a statistical enough amount to show that less body fat equates to longer survival with breast cancer.
Not only is obesity and high body fat percentages a huge risk factor for breast cancer, but as if that evidence weren’t enough there are strong indications that extra weight equals much higher likelihood of developing several different typs of cancer, in both men and women.Â
This new breast cancer research gives us all enough evidence that we should really take care of our bodies, as they were meant to be, and treat food as a sustaining nutrition instead of a purely pleasurable past time, which is one of our biggest problems in how we view food, and in my opinion a huge reason why we have such problems with obesity here.
