Man Scarred, Marred in Breast Reduction Surgery

Today, the world of medical science is moving forward into the future as fast as it can. With the help of modern technology, it can perform miracles as people once could only wish for. The most popular medical procedure is plastic surgery; an opportunity a human being to alter unpleasant places on the body.  One man who had gynecomastia decided to do his male breast reduction by undergoing surgery, and had devastating consequences.

In the beginning, plastic surgery had just one goal, which is removing or fixing damaged places on the body’s surface. Most of those damages are first, second or third degree burns caused by accidents; Rhinoplasty – surgical procedure involving fixing or improving nose function; Liposuction- surgically removing extra body fat; and on and on.

But now plastic surgery is used far more often for improving body looks without an initial health problem. The most usual one is women breast implants. Many women are sensitive when it comes to the size of their breasts. If they are not satisfied with what nature has given them, they call a plasticized surgeon, medically able to enhance their breast size.

It is quite normal today for women to make a decision about breast implants. But as years go by, men started thinking about a possible similar procedure fit for them. Just like women, many men want to have macho-look like famous body builders and athletes. They put themselves through a medical procedure known as gynecomastia, giving their chest the size and look that body-builders work for years to achieve that goal.

As much as plastic surgery is safe and successful, it can also go the other way. Unsuccessful surgery results depend on many things, mostly, how the patient’s body will react to the procedure. Michael Bettinger says different. He is a former patient to Dr Lawrence Reed who surgically performed gynecomastia and left him with scars on his chest and numb nipples.

Not only did his nipples where left senseless, but they were also ‘out of position’ by the male breast reduction surgery. Mr. Bettinger filed a law suit against Dr Reed in Manhattan Supreme Court for $6 million.  This law suit states the fact that doctors play a major role in medical surgery. Every surgeon has an obligation to a patient’s life when he is an operation. The same goes for voluntary plastic surgery.

There are two sides for every story but Dr Reed is unreachable for comment.  Whether it is good to alter nature’s course through plastic surgery, people have different opinions, and they are entitled to it. Doctors are humans too, and like humans they are entitled to human mistakes, but not with the price of other human’s looks; god forbid – someone’s life.
