Grilling BBQ May Increase Breast Cancer Risk?
I remember, even as a child, my parents telling me that eating too much burnt food and barbecued foods, such as BBQ ribs, hamburgers, hot dogs and such off the grill, could increase odds of cancer. But now, I’ve just read another article that is linking BBQ with breast cancer. Bad news for those of us (like myself) who absolutely love to cook out on the grill and make a variety of crispy BBQ offerings in the summer! I also tend to like my BBQ food on the more cooked/well done side……SIGH.
The new findings not only suggest eating a lot of BBQ could be a bad boon for breast cancer possibility, but also women who eat a lot of smoked meats must be careful. Oy vey, they’ve hit me on the nose – I love smoked meats! I do have to say though, I don’t eat meat a lot any more. I’ve instead substituted a lot of soy burgers and meat replacements, mostly for digestive and weight control reasons though, so I guess I only eat these foods sparingly now according to a lot of doctors.
The findings are very significant here, so it would be wise to listen to this logic. The study concluded that women who ate the most smoked, bbq’d and heavily cooked red meats over their lives were more than 40% more likely to develop breast cancer later in life.Â
They suggest that to counter this dire number, if you do eat a lot of meat, first of, all the best thing would be to cut back on the meat, especially the red meat, and the second thing is, if you don’t think you can cut back, make sure you eat plenty of fruits and veggies to help counteract the negative effects the red meat carcinogens have on your system since they are rich in antioxidants and fiber.Â
Veggies and fruits can be a very powerful weapon against breast cancer, and even though most of us feel that everything causes cancer that we enjoy, we can still enjoy these things in moderation as long as we also enjoy the things that can counter the carcinogenic effects of the other foods or lifestyle choices we like to take part in.Â
