Does Your Insurance Cover You Well for Breast Health?

This conversation came up the other day actually. We were talking about how our in-house employee clinic was offering breast cancer screenings. The kind where a travelling nurse goes around and does breast examinations, or teaches you how to do breast exams on yourself and detect breast cancer earlier.

We also have a program that offers mammograms on the go as well.  These are for busy women who don’t like the hassle of making the appointment and having to travel to a doctor’s office. As far as isurance goes, ours is pretty darn good, in addition to some great life insurance benefits, so I consider myself extremely lucky to work for a company that happens to be an insurance company and very aware of what good insurance is for its employees.

However, I know that we are few and far between as so many employers are cutting back on their health and life insurance programs at the expense of their employees. It’s not all their fault though. Health insurance costs are skyrocketing, and it’s a wonder that employers even offer health insurance at all any more.

Some health insurers are cutting off the spouses from being covered if they have health insurance elsewhere as well. We learned this the hard way when my husband, who is on my insurance now, starting accruing a $40 a paycheck charge for having insurance at another location.

At any rate, if your insurer provides breast health screenings for you free of charge, it’s a really great incentive to go and get screened and make sure you stay healthy!
