Breast Feeding Moms Talk About Reaction
There have been quite a few stories about breast feeding mothers coming across various stages of unacceptance in today’s world, which is supposed to be fairly open minded and cultured, but apparently still views breasts as mostly a sexual object, something to be hidden away and ashamed to expose.
The problem with that viewpoint is that new moms really need to have the freedom and feel relaxed enough to feed their new babies out in public when they want and where they want, without feeling they may be breaking some sort of law or ordinance, or getting dirty looks from men and women, or stares from people. But the simple fact is, there is not anyone that can police people’s reactions all the time, it’s just not realistic.
However, some people think that the activist groups which support breast feeding publicly, and just breastfeeding period, go a little too far in their messages, making mothers who cannot or do not want to breastfeed their infants feel guilty that they cannot or do not want to do so by associating the act with putting a child in danger or not giving the child the best possible care.
The bottom line is, breast feeding is an individual choice for all new moms, and should remain that way. Any influence of the outside world on that choice should be kept to a minimum. That’s why we call this the land of the free!
