When it comes to bras, I’ll be totally honest, I’m a hippie at heart. I hate to wear a bra. If it were not such a social taboo to go around without one all of the time, I’d be totally doing it. I can’t stand anything about bras.
I rip them off when I come home from work every day, straight away because I find them to be intrusive. And unfortunately, no matter what kind of bra you wear, or how much you pay for it, you can always tell you’re wearing a bra.
Bras are restrictive to your breasts, but some of them are more so than others. The more restrictive ones are not healthy. They may be great for you to wear to push up your cleavage and look fabulous in a fancy cocktail dress, but on the outside chance that tight bras lead to higher rates of breast cancer, I’d say it’s not worth it.
There have been theories that bras, particularly tight ones, actually may not be good for your breast health and may encourage breast cancer. Why? Because of the bra’s restrictive, tissue binding and irritating quality, wearing a bra may actually interfere with adequate circulation in the breasts.
The theory is that because of inadequate circulation caused by the restriction of the brazier, toxins have a better chance of building up in the breasts and therefore causing abnormal tissue growth in the breast area.
It may sound like a crazy theory to some, but some people wholeheartedly believe this.
I think that wearing a loosely fitting bra is important to breast health personally. The next best thing to wearing a loose fitting, freeing bra is not wearing one at all. Since some of us could get fired from our jobs for not wearing a bra with certain types of clothing, that’s probably not the best option either.
I always try to get bras with a nice light cotton/spandex mixture which are very stretchy so they have a lot of give. I never buy a size down or anything to give myself more cleavage because I can’t stand picking at my bra all day long to loosen it up.
I try to avoid underwire bras, because those are even more restricting, and I think that they are even more uncomfortable. So, stick to very stretchy and breathable materials.
