Being on the Pill, Breast Health, and Risks

Millions of women are the birth control pill. Although “the pill” as it has been dubbed over the past few decades by modern women, has become much safer than its older counterparts that women in my mother’s generation shied away from.

Back in those days, the dosage was so high that many women experienced such bad side effects that they ditched the idea of such an easy way to avoid pregnancy and didn’t look back.  Now, we have low dose pills that are much safer and have much less side effects, and we have various ways to take birth control.

There are shots and patches as well, although those are very questionable and have high risks for certain women. The pill itself has some questionable side effects too though. When it comes to my breasts on the pill, I do experience breast tenderness a whole lot more.

I still experience breast tenderness around my period too, that has not changed. But it is more often that I feel that soreness now.  I will get sore breasts at the drop of a hat now, and I do tend to have more mood swings. Those are the downside. The good thing is, my periods are much lighter, and I know when they are without a doubt.

There are higher risks of blood clots on certain pills, so women who have history of blood clots, or even heart trouble or strokes, or have a lot of family history of these issues, may want to totally avoid the pill all together and choose other non-hormonal methods of birth control.
