Breast Feeding Moms and Painkillers
Breast feeding moms are being cautioned to stay away from painkillers to keep their babies safe. Among some of the painkillers said that need to be avoided when breast feeding are codeine and other opiate pain relievers are also under suspicion. These are very strong painkillers, and actually are highly addictive as well.
There was actually a couple of news stories recently on how badly these pain killers have affected society over the past ten years since their popularity peeked. In Apalachia, painkillers like Oxycontin earned the nickname “hillbilly heroine” because the drug was so chemicallyu similar to the drug, and earned a spot on the black market for people who couldn’t live without the highly addictive pain medication.
I’ve actually experienced what I think was withdrawal after being on another opiate pain reliever called Vicodin for oral surgery, so I can definitely personally attest to the fact that these opiate classes of pain relievers can be highly addictive, and could most definitely cause harm to a newborn infant whom is ingesting it via their mother’s breast milk.
If I were a new mom, I’d try to avoid these types of painkillers all together and just take some kind of alternative instead that was not opiate in nature.
Breast Cancer Vaccine
There may be some more good news for breast cancer patients, apparently even patients with advanced breast cancer. A new vaccine which is said to help block the growth of harmful cancer cells, when delivered to patients with breast cancer, even advanced stages, is showing very positive results in helping to slow the growth of breast cancer tumors. It also is showing all signs that it is safe for use as well, which is excellent news in the complex world of breast cancer research.
The makers of the breast cancer “vaccine” as it’s been termed, although I’m not quite clear on why it’s being called a vaccine because vaccines are supposed to be all together preventive, and this is administered to breast cancer patients who already have the disease, are the same people that make the prostate cancer vaccine called Provenge. The new breast cancer vaccine they have conceived of that we’ve talked about is slated to be called “Neuvenge”.
Here’s the really interesting part, and I guess the reason why it makes sense it is called a vaccine. It is actually made for each patient using their own immune system cells to make the vaccine. Sounds expensive, but if this really works on the upwards of 20% of women that have the type of breast cancer this vaccine can help, it would be well worth it. It’s essentially using the person’s own DNA, their own immune cells to fight the cancer, which is ingenius, and if you think about it, one of the safest ways to fight breast cancer, since essentially there is only recognizable stuff entering the body since it uses the patients own cells to comprise the vaccine.
Interesting and very promising to say the least. It’s a good thing there are such talented people working on breast cancer research. They are making some truly incredible finds in the world of cancer research, and I’m glad breast cancer research seems to be on the forefront, since I’m a woman, and I’ve had personal experience with this in our family.
Breast Implant Prize Causes Controversy in Australia
Apparently, it is not legal or against some sort of policy to give away free plastic surgery as a prize in Australia. Heck, it may be illegal here in the US too for all I know! This story is out of Australia, where a magazine that is popular with men and commonly features scantily clad women in provocative pictures is offering it’s male readers a prize of giving their girlfriends a significant amount of cash toward a boob job. It was over eight grand I believe, which here in the US at least, can buy you a pretty nice set of breasts!
Their appointed commission for investigating wrong doings in lotteries and prize giveaways is launching an investigation into whether they are in their rights to offer such a prize, since they do expressly forbid cosmetic surgery as a giveaway of any sort for some reason, but the magazine is claiming its perfectly legit and legal, since technically, they are offering up money, not actual cosmetic surgery, as a prize, but are promoting it as money for cosmetic surgery.
Makes me wonder, if some guy wins this money, is he required to get his girlfriend of wife breast implants with it? I would think that would be illegal then…
Different breast sizes, Male breast enhancement
Had two questions from readers that are below, names protected of course. One was about what can be done in the way of exercise for uneven breast size, the other was about male breast enhancement.
Question :
Breast Feeding Can Be Hard
After reading some horror stories about how tough breast feeding is for many new moms, I must admit, the idea of breast feeding, whenever, and if ever, I decide to have little ones of my own, isn’t exactly appealing to me except for the fact that I know I’m doing statistically the most healthy thing I can do for them when it comes to development and bonding.
I just read an article about how new moms often think that breast feeding is going to be a piece of cake, and then after a few months of constant pumping, breast pain, and difficulty getting the infant to take the breast, they give up often after about three months and go to bottle feeding or a combination of bottle feeding and breast feeding their infants. Who can blame them? I have to say, if I were up around the clock and in constant pain from swollen and sore, engorged breasts, I’d definitely be throwing in the towel also.
Women often feel guilty about not being able to do it longer, but when the choice comes between sanity and comfort, many times busy moms these days have no choice but to bottle feed their children if they are having difficulty breast feeding. The biggest problem for new moms trying to breast feed comes in when they do not consult with other mothers and share what they think their problems are for feedback from women who have had success with breast feeding their infants.
New moms are often isolated for hours on end due to maternity leaves, and their partners being at work for the daytime hours, and this feeling of isolation only seems to compound fears or insecurities that they are not breast feeding their child correctly, or that something is wrong if they baby isn’t latching on all the time, or they feel they are not producing enough milk. Many support groups for breast feeding moms say that isolating yourself is probably one of the worst things you can do.
It contributes to post partum depression and doesn’t allow you to compare your problems and feedback with other moms who have breast fed to allay any fears that they may not be doing it correctly, or to get feedback on how to better go about certain problems like breast or nipple pain, and not producing enough breast milk.
Anna Nicole’s Breast Augmentation Video Blocked
In a move that actually has some class in a lot of un-classy things that have happened since the death of Anna Nicole Smith and all the sensationalism that occurred after the former playmate’s death, a judge has blocked Anna Nicole’s former plastic surgeon from releasing a videotape of Anna getting a breast augmentation surgery back in 1994.
I’m not sure if this was one of several breast augmentation surgeries the former playmate and spokeswoman for Trimspa had, as it was not mentioned, but Anna definitely did have breast implants, so they may have been a replacement set of implants, or perhaps she was getting them redone as a more natural breast enhancement to look better.
In the move, which to me lacks some serious class, her former plastic surgeon who performed the breast enhancement surgery, said that he had gotten Anna Nicole’s consent to be videotaped, and that it was, in fact, a common practice for him to tape his breast enhancement surgeries. He also said that the waiver patient’s signed when taped during breast enhancement surgeries indicated that the tape would be held confidential “during the patient’s lifetime” and that he thought he’d be exempt after she passed away, since the video was held in confidence during her living years.
Howard K Stern, a controversial figure himself, and the lawyer who claimed to be the father of Anna Nicole’s baby girl Dannilynn, moved to block the surgeon (actually it was indicated it was his wife who was wanting to cash in on the video, but I can’t confirm that of course), from selling or otherwise showing the tape to anyone.
The profits from the showing of the video tape were going to be shared by his wife and a memorabilia dealer, but not now, not unless they want to fight it in court some more. I think, for one, this is supremely tacky. I mean, the woman has had enough of herself and her career exploited and seems to have been taken advantage of by lots of people and hounded by the press, and now, even after her death, someone is trying to show something to the world that I’m sure Ms.Smith would not have wanted? That’s just my opinion though,, although I’m sure there are a lot of people out there who would find this morally repellant as well.
Breast Implant Patients Three Times More Likely to Commit Suicide
I know we’ve rehashed this story several times over, but it seems to be getting fairly extensive media coverage, and this latest study is one of several that has come to the same conclusion about women who have breast augmentation surgery : They are a significantly higher suicide risk.
Almost 400,000 women received the breast enhancement surgery who felt they did not have large enough breasts or wanted to enhance their breasts and felt the only way to do that was through cosmetic surgery.
That’s quite a few women, and most experts are saying that they believe it’s not the implant device or the surgery itself that causes the increasedsuicidal tendencies in those with breast implants, but rather pre-existing conditions that are psychiatric in nature that for some reason women who choose to have breast enhancement have a higher rate of.
Perhaps lower self esteem or a variety of other psychiatric conditions is what has been
speculated on as possible reasons.
The latest study was a follow up on earlier research on over 3,000 Swedish women who had breast implants and were previously determined to have some sort of quantifiably higher risk of suicide. Not only did the Tennessee researchers confirm the Swedish findings, but they came up with the number “three times more likely” than females without implants, and also confirmed that there was higher incidence of alcoholism and drug addiction in this population segment.
To me, this data just confirms that perhaps this population segment of women tends to make the decision to have implants because they may be more likely to experience depression and suicidal thoughts, and that is where the link is, but again, not within the fact of the implants themselves.
I’m Sick of Uncomfortable Bras
This is just me, going off on how much I really hate to wear bras. As soon as I’m home from work, the bra comes right off. If I could go braless everywhere without drawing stares from men or scowls from women, I would in a heart beat. think about it, bras usually just compress your breasts, and many times they are totally uncomfortable on your rib cage.
Throw an underwire in the mix or some extra padding, and I’m climbing the walls in discomfort by the end of the day. I used to wear the padded bras with underwires, when I cared about looking “hot” for guys. Now I just don’t care. My breasts look perfectly fine in an underwire-free bra with no padding or very minimal padding now, and I’m more than happy to just have them as unrestricted as I can. Even when I find a bra that fits me, it’s still not as comfortable as I feel a bra should be.
I mean, why hasn’t some genius created a bra that really felt like you weren’t wearing a bra? I’d pay a hundred bucks if there were such a thing, I really would. My favorite type of bra (if I have to wear one) is probably just a cotton sports bra, with minimal “support”. The more support you have, the worse it seems to squeeze, pinch and intrude on your ribs and breasts.
How about a bra that didn’t leave an indentation below your breasts when you take it off? Wouldn’t that be nice? I wish we could burn our bras like they did in the sixties. I mean seriously, ladies, why do we have to wear them? Why can’t we walk around free, like we should be? And who the hell invented the bra? Didn’t they know they’d make women miserable for decades upon decades? I say we band together and ban bras. I know, wishful thinking, right?
Enzyme Formula for Breast Health?
I am a huge fan of looking online all the time for natural supplements, and in my search this time, I ran across an interesting one that is directed toward women’s breast health, which of course is of a large concern and of the utmost importance nowadays in a woman’s life, especially as she gets older and begins to lose breast density as well as hormone integrity, and this is when a woman enters the “danger zone” for developing breast cancer because of numerous changes in her hormones as well as the integrity of the breast tissue itself wearing down.
I ran across this supplement called Enzymatic Therapy Protective Breast Health Formula which was formulated by a doctor (a female one named Christine Horner- bonus), and contains multiple enzymes and other beneficial naturally-derived ingredients that is said to help promote breast health and help to maintain the health and resiliency of the breast tissue that we had much more of in our youth.
It is a concentrated formula, and calls for two tablets a day. The ingredients in it contain a more potent form of common foods you might eat, but not in nearly enough abundance to get the full benefit every single day, which are known to be beneficial for tissue health - namely breast tissue health. Some of the foods it contains ingredients from are broccoli, tumeric (which studies are showing is immensely beneficial as a cancer preventing agent), and green tea.
Here are some of the ingredients in the Enzymatic Protective formula : Green tea leaf extract, tumeric, calcium, Vitamin D, and grape seed extract are the ones you may have heard of, that are the active ingredients in the formula. Remember how we discussed emerging evidence of the benefits of Vitamin D against breast cancer a while ago? Well, there really hasn’t been any evidence to refute the findings yet, so I’m thinking that Vitamin D may be one of the best things we can consume to help prevent breast cancer and improve breast health all around.
The good thing about this formula is that this vitamin is one of the first on the ingredient list, so you know it has to be fairly high in the vitamin to put it this high on the list. All in all, this sounds worth a look, and is a very reasonable price. It comes in 60 tablet bottles as far as I’m aware, and that would last you 30 days since the indication is to take two pills, one in the morning and one at night.
