Well, today is Christmas.  So, whatever you celebrate, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you a happy and safe holiday today.  May your day be filled with good food, family and friends. 

I myself will be kicking back in Pennsylvania with the boyfriend’s family and stuffing my face with ridiculous amounts of sweets, crackers and cheese and fattening foods, only to be worked off in the new year.  Celebrate, eat, drink and be merry! 

Breast Tenderness and Swelling During Your Period?

I don’t know about you, but one thing I actually like during my period, or actually those few days leading up to my period is the fact that my breasts seem to almost double in size sometimes, depending on the severity of the swelling that particular month.  Sure, I have cramps to go with it, but my boobs are unusually large and as my boyfriend would say “pillowy” feeling. 

Sometimes there is so much swelling in my breasts both before and during my period that I cannot even fit into my normal size bras, or I have to loosen them up another notch to accomodate the larger breast size. 

What’s the downside?  Well, most of the time, with the swelling of the breast tissue, my breasts also become hypersensitive to the touch, and they do become tender overall.  Kind of like they sometimes feel if you are on the pill (some women experience breast tenderness more frequently than when they are on their period, when they are on the birth control pill). 

So, what causes breast tenderness and the bigger breast size during your period? Well, during a woman’s menstrual cycle, her body’s production of estrogen goes up dramatically just before the midway point of the cycle.  This causes an enlargement of the ducts in the breasts, which is further exacerbated by the swelling or enlargement of the milk production ducts due to higher levels of progesterone being emitted into the body. 

This enlargement, engorgement, or swelling (whatever you want to call it), is basically what causes the tenderness in the breasts, since it begins to push more against sensitive nerves within the breast, which causes the faint “throbbing pain” signals to the brain.  So, in short, period boobs can be slightly painful, but boy, they sure do look good! 

Christina’s Boobs Look Good!

I was just viewing a picture of pop star Christina Aguilera on the ridiculously addictive, and sometimes malicious blog PerezHilton.com, and boy, her boobs look pretty good for being fake. 

I have a hunch that maybe Ms. Aguilera went overseas to get herself a pair of silicone boob implants rather than getting them done here in the US, where they would not have been a legal option at the time she got her surgery done. 

My guess by the way, of when she got her breast augmentation done, would be the time before she came out with the “Dirrty” video, that’s when I remember thinking “hmm, Christina’s boobs sure did blow up overnight”. 

Well, kudos to Christina, she is one of the few hollywood starlets who actually got herself a good, natural looking pair!  Plus, she seems to have a genuinely nice and good man in her life with her new hubbie, so this seems to have calmed her down and put her in a good place in life. 

Hormone Pills and Breast Cancer, More Info

After steady increases for years in the rates of breast cancer, in the year 2003, breast cancer rates dropped a dramatic 7.2 percent. That is more than good news for women. A decline of that proportion in breast cancer rates is great news.

A correlation has been drawn between the decline in breast cancer rates and a decline in the number of women taking hormone pills. After a federal study found a higher risk of breast cancer, heart disease and other health problems for women taking menopause hormones, millions of women stopped taking them.

Some experts are cautious about drawing conclusions about the link between hormone replacement cessation and the sharp decline in breast cancer rates. They cite factors such as advances in imaging technology for causing the steady increases that preceded the decline. Their logic is that more cases were found and diagnosed in the years prior to the decline.

On a personal note, I have opted to never start on a regimen of hormone replacement. I have chosen to use Estrovan, a soy based product, for any menopausal symptoms with satisfactory results.

My reasoning not to start hormone replacement was that it is not natural to take hormones and keep them at a high level throughout our lifetime. Perhaps our feminine bodies knew what was best for us all along with declining hormone levels as we age.

Any factor that can reduce the rates of breast cancer is of great personal significance. Nine years ago, I lost my sister and best friend to breast cancer. She was 48 years old. It is of paramount importance to continue researching any way to reduce the risk of getting this disease and publishing research results. 

Eye Candy Cuts Salon & Cleavage Bearing Uniforms?

Well, apparently a guy thought of this one (I hope).  A new hair salon called EyeCandyCuts, in Oklahoma that is for men only, opened by Ken Roper, features hair salon stylists dressed only in sexy lingerie, and is of course drawing fire from some state regulators and conservatives are turning their noses up at it. 

Ken and his wife thought of the idea for the men’s only salon.  The men can get soothing and relaxing hair cuts and massages and facial hair trimming.  And of course, they get to look at pretty women dressed in sexy outfits.  I saw some of the outfits, and they’re really not “raunchy” they’re just cute and sexy. 

The salon’s policy is that they cater to the male population, but women are not “not allowed”, although the owner does say that the reason for the cleavage bearing sexy outfits is to draw men, not women, and the services offered are really geared toward men only. 

The owner did say regulators upon a second glance said they did not really approve of the way the salon’s stylists were dressed, and are thinking about creating a new policy about how cosmetologists should dress (ie, turtlenecks concealing the entire body), but seriously, why can’t people just have a little fun? 

It’s not a nude salon, it’s just women that are dressed a little more scantily.  It’s no more offensive than walking down the street in LA or South Beach Florida. 

Male Breast Enhancement and Enlargement Cream

You  may be wondering, how can an externally applied cream or tonic actually produce a change in men’s breast tissue?  Well, applying breast enhancement and enlargement cream is recommended in conjunction with oral breast enlargement supplements for women, so why would it not be recommended for males trying to grow female breasts?

Less HRT, Less Breast Cancer?

A major government funded study recently revealed that the previous popularity of medical HRT hormone treatments for menopausal women may have been linked to breast cancer development more than was initially thought. 

It had long been speculation that the use of synthetic hormone replacement in women who were going through the menopause period in their life (usually anywhere from age 50-60 in most women), was linked to breast cancer, or the development of unhealthy cell growth in the breasts due to an agressive introduction of high estrogen counts into the body which didn’t know what to do with the suddenly re-introduced estrogen. 

The big drop in reported cases of breast cancer seems to have started somewhere in the year 2003, and most experts believe that this is because this is the year the negative press about medical HRT started to circulate, and a lot of menopausal women who may have gone for HRT before did not. 

The decline is a fairly high one considering diseases usually do not just fall off the charts this quickly, around 7%.  Since of course no doctor can directly link this drop in breast cancer to the drop in HRT in women, it is only logical, since this happens to be the same year these types of treatment took a dramatic drop. 

There are natural HRT options available to women, which are a slower, more natural introduction of the female hormones that make the life adjustment a little easier on women who are going through menopause and perimenopause.  They are a weaker and less agressive form, and yet they usually can produce excellent results after a few weeks or months. 

There is something to be said for herbal medicine regarding this, since herbal medicine is in a less agressive form usually than medical treatments – sometimes more is simply not better, and this is one of those cases.
